After Simon encounters Jesus and decides to follow him, he closes his shop, and after Daniel’s grandmother dies, he offers the shop and adjoining house to Daniel.

Since then, he’s opened his own blacksmith shop. Kenana is the Aramaic word for the same member of the Jewish resistance party. Simon, like Daniel, was once Amalek ’s apprentice. Kananaios comes from the Semitic noun 'Kana,' zeal. Zealot is the Greek word, from zelos, zeal. It is simply a transcription of the Aramaic designation for Zealots. Actually, however, kananaios has nothing whatever to do with the land of Canaan. He was brought to Jesus by his brother Andrew, who told him, We have found the Messiah (Jn 1:41). Was Simon the Zealot married He was a married man (Mk 1:30) who frequently took his wife along with him on his missionary travels (1 Cor 9:5). This is the same person who is designated as Simon 'ho kananais' in the parallel lists of Mark (3:18) and Matthew (10:4). Saint Simon was from Cana in Galilee, and was known to the Lord and His Mother. Remember, Luke 6:15 says, James, the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called the Zealot, a statement indicating Simon and James were likely brothers. We can say with certainty that one member of the group of twelve chosen disciples belonged to the Zealots-or at least had belonged to them before his calling. Fourth-century historian and Bible scholar Eusebius points out that Hegesippus had also written three hundred years earlier that Simon was the son of Cleopas, a name often identified with Alphaeus.Simon the Zealot (Acts 1:13, Luke 6:15) or Simon the Cananite (Matthew 10:4, Mark 3:18 Greek: Σίμων ὁ Κανανίτης) was one of the apostles of Jesus.
